Fonts Not Displaying Correctly

On my websites, I often use the fonts Pristina, Lucida Handwriting, & Lucida Calligraphy for headings & navigation bars. For this particular website, Pristina & Lucida Handwriting are most often used.

These are not 'websafe' fonts - meaning that not all computers have them installed. If the fonts look distorted on your computer, then you probably don't have these fonts installed either. If you wish to optimize your experience on my websites, please install the following fonts: Pristina, Lucida Handwriting Italic, & Lucida Calligraphy Italic.

An easy way to get those fonts is to copy them from a computer that already has them installed; then transfer the copy to your computer by email, burning it to cd, using a flash drive, etc.

Installing a font is simple - it's usually a matter of adding the new font file to your existing Fonts folder. See the instructions below.

Downloading Fonts

You can download fonts from various places. If you wish, you can download 2 of the 3 fonts mentioned above from this website by clicking here (.zip file). Or download each one separately below.

You can save the files & install them on your computer. Or simply open the files. Cllick a link below, click Open when prompted, then leave the file open while you are browsing the web - you should be able to see the fonts magically display without installing the files on your computer. You will need to restart your browser after opening the font files for the changes to take effect.

To save files for installation: Download a file & save it to your computer, (unzip it & extract the files if you used the zip folder), then follow the installation instructions below.

www.fontonic.com also has Pristina available to download for free. Fontonic also gives instructions on how to install your new font to your computer, or to simply open the font temporarily while you browse the web without installing it.

You can also buy fonts from reputable sources. A paid-for font can be a higher quality font than a free version.

You should always be cautious when downloading anything. Make sure your virus protection & spyware programs are up-to-date, and scan the downloaded files before installing them.

How to Install True Type Fonts
http://www.fontonic.com/installfonts.asp

Windows Vista: Select the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) and then Right-click | Install

Windows XP/2000/98: Copy and Paste the font files (.ttf, .otf or .fon) into Windows Fonts folder. Could be on C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts. [Or open your Control Panel and see if there's a folder there named Fonts.]

If don't want to install the font but simply use it temporarily, just double-click on the .ttf file, and while the preview window is opened you can use it in most of the programs you'll launch.

Mac OS X 10.3 or above: Just Double-click fonts then click on Install font button at the bottom of the preview.

Any version of Mac OS X:
Just Put the files into /Library/Fonts (for all users), or into /Users/Your_username/Library/Fonts (for you only).

Mac OS 9 or earlier: Drag fonts into the System folder. System will ask you to add them to the Fonts folder.Just Copy and Paste fonts (.ttf or .otf) into fonts:/// in the File manager.

To use a new font with a software, it is necessary to relaunch the application [in this case, your browser] to be able to use the new font.
